about

This song was first conceived of in the early months of 2021.Initially, it was intended as a floating dirge carried by a consistent bass-line. The lyrical content was very much a reaction to the world around me at the time. A world ravaged by a novel virus and all the proxy-maladies seeping into people's minds one by one. It was also a reflection on the state of mind I found myself in - one not entirely foreign to me even before the pandemic, but ever more absurd and unreal now that the world was on hold.

The arrangement has changed quite a bit from the initial intention. But that's the beauty of early, open concepts - they are subject to an evolution of sorts. So now it became this wailing, watery Darkwave tune with a few hints and nods to Suicide, Blade Fetish, Brian Eno, Bowery Electric, even the Magnetic Fields and modern era Nick Cave. I quite like how it turned out. Hope you enjoy it.

lyrics

Turn with the change below
Specs and sprites awash
In the ocean blue

Riverbound souls as we are
Riverbound souls as we are

And as I sit by the windowsill
Watching every train go by
Like vacant vessels
Drifting on the ocean (Sounds of the deep)
I watch and yearn

Will I ever hear your voice again?
Will I ever hear your voice again?

And I sit here
Chasing phantoms (Sounds of the deep)

Watching and yearning
Watching and yearning
Watching and yearning

Watching and yearning
Watching and yearning ...

about

Extraterrestrial Cat Lady Vienna, Austria

Extraterrestrial Cat Lady is an amalgamation of Ben DeFinster's (Velvet Doomsday, collaborator of The Bassenger) solo-oddities. A lo-fi mishmash of old and new, a transgressive blend of different genres. Dilettante as it gets, DIY as fuck.
